UNDERSTANDING LIGHT-CURED LASH EXTENSIONS
WHAT’S THE POINT OF USING A LIGHT?
Traditional lash adhesive uses moisture in the air to cure/fully harden, and because of this it can potentially take 24-48 hours to fully bond, during which clients must avoid water, steam, or excessive humidity to prevent lash loss. It is important to note that when lash adhesive cures, it releases a small amount of formaldehyde fumes. These fumes are responsible for the dry eyes and burning sensation, you might have experienced after your lash appointment in the past.
WHAT TYPE OF LIGHT IS USED?
HOW DOES THE LIGHT COMPARE TO UV FROM THE SUN?
Ultraviolet light from the sun and the Opal light are different in many ways! In order to equal the same amount of UV exposure you get standing outside for one minute... you would have to be under the Opal light for 60 HOURS nonstop!! Obviously, your lash appointment isn’t taking 60 hours, so you are probably getting more UV exposure walking across the parking lot from your car to the salon than you would ever receive at your lash appointment with Opal
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What are the benefits of light curing adhesives?
Minimal Fumes Reduces Dry Eye & Irritation Longer Lasting Retention Clean, Biocompatible Ingredients
Is the UV/LED light safe for skin and eyes?
Yes! The light emitted from the lamp isn’t strong enough to penetrate through your eyelid to your eye. The Opal system has been through rigorous third party testing against IEC standards; and the system has shown time and time again to exceed safety standards.
What type of ingredients are in LED UV adhesive?
The adhesive is a one-of-a-kind, patented formula created after years of testing in a U.S. FDA approved laboratory. With your health being the top priority during the formulation process, the Opal adhesive contains only the cleanest and most biocompatible ingredients!
60-70% ethyl 2 cyanoacrylate
15-20% sodium stearate
5-10% photo initiator
1-5% pigmentation (Violet Sheer only)
The light-curing system redefines the lash extensions experience. Its operation relies on a seamless interaction between the specially formulated adhesive and the specific wavelength in the light.
In contrast, the light curing adhesive cures instantly and completely when it is exposed to a specific wavelength of light for 1-3 seconds. This means your lashes are completely “dry” afterwards and therefore the amount of time you’re being exposed to fumes is greatly diminished. This process also creates a stronger, more durable bond, with less possible side effects.
Overall, the light curing system allows you to resume normal activities immediately after your appointment, offering both convenience and superior performance and releases 300 times LESS fumes than your typical lash adhesive, making it not only the safer option for you as a client, but also your lash artist!
The Opal light is a low powered LED (light emitting diode) that produces near-UV light wavelengths at 395- 400nm. This type of light is classified as purple visible light. It was specifically chosen due to its inability to penetrate deeply into skin tissue. As you can see in the diagram, the purple light is the safest option.
Our cell phones, TV screens, and computer screens are all examples of LEDs that emit blue light! Notice on the diagram how much deeper blue light penetrates the skin. Your cell phone is doing more harm to your skin and eyes than the Opal light-curing system I use ever could!
